Who Will Win the 2022 AL Cy Young Award?

With the announcement of the MLB players and owners agreeing to a new Collective Bargaining Agreement and a full 162-game regular season schedule, it is time to look at some MLB future bets we can make. Remember that there are still a lot of free agents that will need teams so these odds can fluctuate a little depending on what sportsbook you look at, and when you look at it. Today, we will be diving into the American League Cy Young Award odds for the 2022 season and see if we can find some value.

While baseball is getting ready for the regular season, there’s still time to get some March Madness brackets in for college basketball as the NCAA Tournament is getting ready to tip off.

Gerrit Cole (+450)

Gerrit Cole is one of the best pitchers in all of baseball and finished the 2021 season as the runner-up for this award. He has dominated as he has been in the top five of voting for each of the previous four seasons and has the ability to be a workhorse at the top of the New York Yankees starting rotation. Cole has the ability to win games with the lineup behind him and the ability to strike out a bunch of batters as he has struck out over 245 batters in the last three full seasons.

With the ability to win the award and a full offseason to pitch without “sticky stuff” as well as recovering from a hamstring injury that he suffered in September, it will be hard to find better odds than Cole. Throw some money his way as he has proven to pitch well enough to be in contention for the award.

Shane Bieber (+700)

The Cleveland Guardians have one of the best pitchers in the sport in Shane Bieber. He won the 2020 AL Cy Young Award and the pitching Triple Crown. He only pitched 16 games during the 2021 regular season as he did not pitch from the middle of June until the end of September. However, he was throwing well when on the mound and has the ability to overwhelm hitters.

He also is pitching the American League Central, which is notably a weaker offensive division with teams like the Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers not able to keep up offensively. The only question is if he will be able to pitch the entire season without suffering an injury but if he can do that, I would throw a few bucks on Bieber to win his second Cy Young award in three seasons.

Lance Lynn (+2200)

Lance Lynn is my dark horse candidate to win the 2022 American League Cy Young as he is one of the best fastball pitchers in the sport. He finished third in the Cy Young Award voting a year ago and has been inside the top six each of the previous three seasons. This will be his second season with the Chicago White Sox and is on a contract year, which gives him extra motivation to pitch well.

He finished the 2021 season with an 11-6 record with a 2.49 ERA with 176 strikeouts in 157 innings on the mound. Lynn will overpower hitters with his four-seam fastball and get ahead in the count. Throwing a few dollars towards Lance Lynn’s direction has the ability to net you a lot with not too much doubt of where his season will lie.

Conclusion

All three of these pitchers have experience pitching well for an entire season and should be able to do so once again. These could easily be the three finalists of the award at the conclusion of the regular season. It finally feels great to talk about actual baseball and not a lockout so tell us what pitchers should be able to compete for the 2022 American League Cy Young Award and why!
